VENAKKI DISTILLERY · The investment case
An established craft.
An emerging origin.
The Pioneer of Portuguese Whisky. A productive foundation within THE HOUSE OF VENAKKI, with an international opportunity shaped by provenance, maturation and disciplined distribution.
A division of THE HOUSE OF VENAKKI
Explore the opportunityA single whisky origin, reaching more than 160 international markets.1
An established imported category, alongside an emerging domestic origin.2
International spending in Portugal, up 5% on the previous year.3
Three distinct reference points: Scotch export value, Portuguese whisky import value and Portuguese tourism receipts. These are contextual indicators, not a global premium-whisky market valuation or an estimate of VENAKKI’s addressable market. Sources & definitions ↓
The world market
Premium must earn its place.
Whisky has an established international audience. Scotch alone generated £5.36 billion in export value in 2025.1 For an emerging House, the commercial task is to earn a distinctive and sustainable position within that wider category.
The market is selective. IWSR’s 2026 research describes a slowdown in premiumisation, with pressure on consumer confidence and spending.4 A higher price needs a persuasive reason: quality in the glass, credible provenance and an experience worth returning to.
Opportunities vary by channel. IWSR reports that Scotch and Japanese whisky volumes in global travel retail grew by 10% and 37% respectively in 2025.5 These figures concern that channel specifically; they do not imply equivalent growth across the world whisky market.
VENAKKI’s strategy is to combine a recognisable origin with considered products and effective representation. Premium positioning must translate into sustainable margins for the House and its commercial partners.
Why Portugal
A new origin, with deep roots.
Portugal’s whisky story is young. Its knowledge of wine, fortified wine, wood and maturation is not.
Port, Madeira, Moscatel and Douro wine casks give the House a distinctive palette for maturation and blending. The opportunity lies in how those materials are selected and used to create character, supported by a Portuguese maturation environment that brings its own demands for stock management and judgement.
Portugal also offers a substantial international audience. In 2025 it recorded 32.5 million accommodation guests and 82 million overnight stays; almost seven in ten overnight stays came from non-residents.3
We see this as a route to discovery through selected hospitality, specialist retail and encounters with the House. Tourism receipts are evidence of visitor spending across the economy; they are not proof of premium-whisky demand.
The Japanese precedent
Japan provides a precedent for the recognition of a whisky origin beyond the category’s established centres. Our thesis is that Portugal can also earn a distinctive place, through its own character and standards.
The comparison is a strategic perspective, not a forecast that Portugal will repeat Japan’s growth, scarcity or pricing. Recognition must be earned, one release and one market at a time.
The VENAKKI position
From conviction to a body of work.
VENAKKI’s distillery work began in 2012. Its foundation includes bottled products, maturing stock, technical knowledge, commercial relationships and repeated independent recognition in Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible.
THE PORTUGUESE WHISKY and WOODWORK offer distinct expressions of the House’s approach to selection, maturation and blending. Portuguese cask heritage is part of their character and a point of distinction to explain, taste and evaluate.
Our craft encompasses the judgement of what to source, what to mature, what to blend and when to release. Capital is directed towards the combination that supports product quality, stock continuity and sound economics.
A division within a wider House
The Distillery provides an established productive foundation. VENAKKI TABACALERA, VENAKKI ALCHEMIST and VENAKKI ATELIER extend the House into complementary disciplines, while the Embassy vision creates a setting in which those expressions can be experienced together.
This page concerns the Distillery. Participation in the Portuguese platform and participation in the wider House carry different rights, assets and economic exposure; these are explained in the private investor materials.
Route to market
Craft earns attention.
Distribution earns the reorder.
Our priority is to convert product quality into recurring commercial demand. That requires capable partners, clear pricing and consistent work in each selected market.
- Specialist importers & distributorsBuild market access with partners who understand the products, believe in their position and can develop sustained demand.
- Selected retail & hospitalityReach consumers through specialist retailers, considered bars, restaurants, hotels and private clubs where provenance can be explained and the product experienced.
- Direct relationshipsUse permitted direct channels, tastings and private encounters to deepen product knowledge and maintain a close understanding of the patron.
- Commercial disciplineEvaluate sales to end customers, repeat orders, contribution margins and cash collection. Match market expansion to demonstrated demand.
International distribution provides reach; Portugal provides origin and discovery. Future Embassies are intended to deepen relationships alongside the wider distribution network.
These are commercial priorities, not claims of appointed representation in every target market. Territorial coverage and channel assumptions are reviewed during diligence.
Why this stage
The work exists.
The next task is reach.
The case for considering participation now rests on the stage of the business: established products and practical knowledge, with distribution, stock depth and professional commercial capacity still to develop.
Earlier participation offers the possibility of helping shape that development. It also carries the execution and financing risks of a business whose international reach remains under construction.
- Time already investedKnowledge, product development and maturing stock take years to build. Their condition, ownership and commercial relevance must be assessed against the underlying records.
- Reserves for future releasesStock laid down today creates future release options. Those options require funding, care and demand; maturation alone does not guarantee appreciation.
- A commercial contributionAn aligned partner may bring market access, distribution capability, operating judgement and relationships alongside capital.
Our objective is to turn craft credibility into a durable commercial business while preserving the judgement that gives the products their character.
The next chapter
Build in a deliberate sequence.
- 01 / Commercial capabilityStrengthen leadership for strategic markets and distribution; develop selected territories and support repeat purchasing.
- 02 / Stock & continuityBuild suitable whisky reserves, align releases with demand and protect the availability of future expressions.
- 03 / The Portuguese platformDevelop warehousing, maturation infrastructure and equipment where capacity and economics justify the investment.
- 04 / The wider HouseActivate complementary divisions and develop selective hospitality only as the operating, patron and funding case supports them.
Asset capital for assets. Operating capital for operations. Inventory-backed capital for stock. Strategic equity where the partner adds enduring value.
Budgets, timing, funding instruments and forecasts belong in the private financial review. Each stage must remain proportionate to evidence and available capital.
